The History of RuhrZink GmbH

1968 Operations commence at the factory (August)
1972 First extension: construction of a second contact plant
1976 Second extension: operations at Power Circuit 4 - 150,000 tonne plant - commence
1982 MIM Holdings Ltd. joins the company as a shareholder
1990 Third extension: operations at Power Circuit 5 commence Vereinigte Elektrizit„tswerke Westfalen AG (VEW) joins the company as a shareholder
1991 Direct leaching taken into use for the leaching of concentrates (Sherritt-Gordon procedure)
1993 Conversion of the leaching department implementing a simplified leaching procedure (May - June) (decommissioning of the hematite procedure)
VEW leaves the group of shareholders
1994 MIM Holdings Ltd. leaves the group of shareholders
Direct leaching deactivated (April)
Power Circuits 1 to 4 deactivated (May & June)
Reduction of the production output to 90,000 tonnes per year (from July)
1998 Capacity is extended to 105,000 tonnes per year
Installation and taking into use of the mercury-extraction plant
1999 Acquisition of the shares by MG Rohstoffhandel GmbH, Frankfurt
2003 Starting up washing bay waelz oxide
2004 Capacity increase to 140,000 tonnes per year
